Hitler Lips!

Now that I got your attention…

We were outside one beautiful afternoon enjoying the fresh air. My oldest daughter wanted to ride her scooter and/or bike back and forth to the neighbors house so I sat in the driveway with the baby. I was on the phone with my sister, when my oldest daughter says “Mommy, Mommy look no hands”. As I looked over at her, she had her water bottle suctioned to her top lip. She thought she was cool because now she could drink her water without using her hands. I waved at her and whispered “Cool honey”.

After a while of riding her bike, I decided to call it a night. I gave her a three minute warning and we started to clean up. When she came over, her upper lip was bright red right under her nose. Because she has an allergic reaction to bug bites, I was instantly worried that a mosquito had bitten her. I said “honey, what happened to your lip. Come here and let me see.” She came over and I noticed it was not a bug bite but a big, red hickey (from the suctioned water bottle no doubt). Oh Man, hopefully that will go away soon.

We went inside and I told her to put some ice on it, hoping that the redness and swelling would go down. Once my husband got home we went out and got some dinner. We could see that her lip was not getting any better as the night went on. I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself because where the hickey was (right under the nose) she kinda looked like Hitler.

As soon as we got home, I told my oldest that it was time to get ready for bed. “First go brush your teeth and then get your pajamas on” I said as I unpacked the diaper bag. I was just about to go into my daughters room when she yelled “AH! My lip! I don’t like the way I look”. Oh man, I hadn’t thought that she had not seen her lip up until now. She came into the room and said “I don’t want to go to school tomorrow looking like this”. “don’t worry” we tried to reassure her “I’m sure it will be gone by tomorrow”.

Of course, it wasn’t, although she didn’t seem too concerned about it the next morning. I asked her if anyone said anything at school and she said no. To top of the experience, it was also the day that we had the doctor’s appt for her wellness visit. Our doctor asked her if she was sucking on her upper lip, she said no. “Thats a result of a suctioned waterbottle” I informed him. “oh! otherwise known as a hickey” he whispered to me smiling. “Well” he said, “are we going to do that again?” “No never again” she said!
